Quick Guide to Maintain your Folding Bikes

Any product we use has a tendency to degrade over time if the upkeep isn't done properly. For reference, our bikes and cars need maintenance over a period of time, so that each part works well when they are used. And the same goes for a folding bike. It goes through different paths while catching dust, speed breakers affect the handle and tyres, and bumpy roads make the suspensions suffer. Regular maintenance of the bike is a recommended habit to make sure it works smoothly wherever you go, and it helps with longevity. Let’s go through some points on how you can take care of a bike:

1)    Cleaning the frame: Usually, cars and bikes are washed at home or at shops or service centres with water. But in the case of folding bikes, throwing water from high-pressure pipes isn’t appropriate as that can cause damage to the delicate parts and may tear off the paint. Folding bikes need to be cleaned manually to ensure that all parts are in good condition.

2)    Oiling the chain: In the past, the method for cleaning the chain was complex. The chain needs to be removed and dipped into a solution. After that, the solution is kept untouched for several hours, or you need to stir it till the water is clean, and lastly. use a brush to clean the remaining junk. But nowadays, the process is smooth. You just need to spray degreaser on the chain and it dries on its own. You can lubricate the chain with any good lubricant after the cleansing is finished to keep it safe from corrosion.

3)    Brake Pads: Brakes are the basic mechanism for controlling and managing the speed of the bike. Any difficulty in braking will spoil your biking experience and lead to dangerous driving. The brakes should be smooth and make sure any squeaky sounds are not coming out of them. If you hear any noises or if the brakes are loose, get them repaired at a shop. You can even get the brakes replaced if they have got damaged or become inconsistent in performance over time.

4)    Wheels: Air pressure is the most common thing to check whenever you plan a trip, or if you are regularly taking the bike for a commute then it should be done quite often to not end up with low air pressure. Driving with such low air pressure could increase the chances of getting punctures. Another point to be noted is that your wheel alignment should be straight so that your balance while driving is stable. A great example of a balanced and sturdy bike is the New Birdy Standard 9 Speed, which has gear speeds up to 9. It has 18-inch strong tyres with a 1.5-inch width, which are very good for riding on difficult paths and even for daily commuting. This bike ensures that you ride with style and brings out a great performance. The disc brakes ensure that the folding bike will stop when you want it to stop, and the strong suspension assures you of great comfort while moving around.
